GIVE BACK TO YOUR ORGANIZATION BY GETTING INVOLVED WITH THE BOARD
Serving as a GPA MN board member is a terrific way to become an active participant in the inner workings of our chapter and contribute your time and talents to the greater good of the hounds.
Every fall new Board members are selected and the new members join the Board at the beginning of the calendar year in January. We would love for you to consider serving our organization by applying for one of the multiple board positions that are open for election this year. We are sure you will find it to be a fun and rewarding experience!
What does it mean to be a board member?
The GPA MN board is a “working board” which means that each board member has a purpose on the board and board members actively participate in the day-to-day workings of the organization by taking on a coordinator role (example: Volunteer Coordinator, Newsletter Coordinator, Foster Coordinator, etc.) or being elected into one of the executive roles (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary). Role selection takes place at the first meeting in January.

When does the board meet?
Board meetings are usually the first Tuesday of each month from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. Additional general business is conducted via email during the time between our monthly meetings.
What is the term for a board member?
Terms start at the beginning of January and the elected term of each board member is 2 years. Current board members can succeed themselves for multiple concurrent terms. The coordinator roles and executive positions are selected annually by the board members at the first meeting of the year.
When are candidates introduced?
Candidates who apply for a position on the board have the opportunity to introduce themselves at the Membership Appreciation event.
How are candidates selected?
In accordance with the GPA National protocol, board members are elected into office by the current GPA MN board. The Board has implemented this new selection protocol for the 2014 selection cycle to comply with the protocol followed throughout all other GPA chapters in the National organization.
How can I contribute?
We have many opportunities available for those who are interested in contributing. The board handles a wide variety of events, ongoing tasks, and administrative functions throughout the year to keep the organization running smoothly. Every board member brings unique talents and abilities to the board and we do our best to make the most of each individual's strengths.

We ask you to think about your strengths and share them with us on your application so we understand your background and how it can be applied within our organization. If you are interested in contributing to a specific area within the organization, please indicate on your application the areas you are most interested in. We also invite you to propose a new role if you believe it would benefit the organization.
How do I apply for a GPA MN Board Member Position?
GPA MN is a working board and therefore a firm knowledge of Greyhounds is necessary for applicants to be successful board members. Therefore, applicants must be current or prior greyhound owners and must not be a current board member of any other animal rescue organization.
