WHAT TO EXPECT
We have found that the best way to ensure success is to make sure that everyone enters into the adoption process with appropriate expectations. While we would love to give every family the dog whose picture they fell in love with, unfortunately that just isn't possible. When you apply to adopt a greyhound from GPA MN, the information you provide on your application is the first step in helping us match you with the right hound for your family, home, and lifestyle. Our GreyMatch process has been proven successful for hundreds of applicants, and we know it will help us find the right hound for you. There are so many dogs that need homes, so if you are open minded, we are confident that we can find you a suitable match.
We also hope you understand that greyhound rescue is about taking in dogs that are in need of homes for many reasons and we aren’t always able to meet every desire of every applicant. No dog is perfect. Since we accept dogs regardless of age, gender, or infirmity, we have no control over the variety of characteristics each dog has. While many are young, healthy, and ready for a long life of retirement, some come to us broken, with medical concerns, or otherwise in need of TLC. The more flexible you are with your hopes and desires, the more quickly we will be able to find a suitable match for you. If you are very specific about the type of dog you are willing to adopt, be aware that you may have to wait many months.
We try to accommodate preferences as much as possible but the more flexible you are, the more quickly we can work together to make a match that is suitable for your home.
BEFORE YOU APPLY:
In order to ensure you are prepared for your adoption, we require all potential adopters to complete required reading and attend one of our organization's Meet & Greet events. We want you to have a good understanding of the greyhound breed by having the opportunity to meet hounds face-to-face, ask questions of our event volunteers, and be well-prepared for your future family member.
