This page provides a wealth of information about Greyfest. If you still have questions about the event after reading through the FAQ, please contact the Greyfest Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: What is Greyfest?
A: Greyfest is GPA MN's biggest event of the year. Loved by hounds and humans alike, Greyfest is always a great day of fun, camaraderie, and tons of hounds!!! This is an annual event that honors our retired hounds and helps us raise funds to support our mission of finding forever homes for retired racing greyhounds. Admission is FREE! While Greyfest is an event that features a huge number of greyhounds, we welcome everyone to join the festivities even if you don’t have a greyhound.
Q: What sort of entertainment and events will be taking place at Greyfest?
A: Some of the exciting entertainment at Greyfest includes our huge raffle, hound contests, a straight-line "Speed Alley" run for the hounds, nail trimming, a wide variety of vendors selling merchandise including the GPA merchandise booth, and more. Check the schedule on the Greyfest page for the latest details.
Q: How do I get to Greyfest?
A: You can create custom directions to Greyfest using the map and directions generator at the bottom of the Greyfest page.
Q: Which fairgrounds entrance should I use?
A: The most convenient entrance is the gate on the South side of the fairgrounds at the intersection of Como and Underwood (one block West of the intersection of Snelling and Como).
Q: Where can I park for Greyfest?
A: There are two large lots where attendees are welcome to park - one behind the Dairy Building and one across the street behind the Haunted House. There is also ample street parking along the adjacent streets within the fairgrounds.
Q: Will I be able to use a credit card at Greyfest?
A: Credit cards will be accepted at the GPA Merchandise booth for purchase of merchandise items. Due to MN law, we will not be able to accept credit cards for purchase of raffle tickets. Some vendors may accept credit cards, but some may only accept cash and/or checks.
Q: Will there be a cash machine available at Greyfest?
A: A cash machine will be available on-site at Greyfest.
Q: What about shade?
A: The Dairy Building will provide ample space to enjoy shade while you are inside.
Q: Can I bring my own canopy tent to set up?
A: Due to the fact that we will have vendors in the area outside the building we will not have extra space available for setting up your own tent.
Q: Do I need to clean up after my dog?
A: Yes, please! If your dog does the squat, please be courteous to everyone and go pick it up as soon as you see it happen. No one wants to clean up someone else’s dog logs or the mess that follows when somebody (hound or human) steps in it.
Q: Where will the raffle be located?
A: The raffle will be set up inside the building.
Q: Can I buy raffle tickets with a credit card?
A: No. The state of Minnesota classifies raffles as gambling, and gambling cannot be paid for by way of credit cards. We will be able to accept cash or check for raffle ticket purchases.
Q: Can anyone participate in the raffle?
A: Anyone over the age of 18 can participate in the raffle. Because it is considered gambling, we must adhere to the rules established by the state of MN, which limits participation to those over the age of 18.
Q: How much do the raffle tickets cost?
A: All raffle tickets will be $1 each. Tickets are valid for any item in the raffle.
Q: Do I need to put my name on the tickets?
A: Yes. Write your name on the tickets and drop the entire ticket into the box for the item you wish to have a chance to win. You only need to write your first and last name on the ticket; phone number and address are not required. Be sure to make it legible so we can call the right name for the winning ticket! HELPFUL HINT: Address labels are a quick and easy way to put your name on your tickets.
Q: When will the raffle drawing take place?
A: The raffle drawing will start at 3:00 pm.
Q: How will I know if I won something?
A: We will announce the winning names as we draw the winning tickets for each item. The winning ticket will then be taped to the item and the item will be moved to a WINNERS table. If your name is called, please make your way to the WINNERS table and identify yourself to the volunteer at the table to claim your prize.
Q: Do I need to be present for the raffle drawing?
A: If you enter your name in the drawings but are not going to be present at the raffle drawing, you must have someone who can be there to pick up any prizes you may win. All prizes must be claimed at the event. Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold or deliver any unclaimed prizes.
Q: Where will the vendors be located?
A: Vendors will be inside the building and outside the building.
Q: Will I be able to use a credit card to purchase vendor merchandise?
A: While some vendors may accept credit cards, most vendors may only accept cash or checks. There will be a cash machine available on-site.
Q: Where will the food be located?
A: The concessions vendors, Rusty Taco and Smokey's Charbroiler, will be located just outside the building.
Q: What type of food will be available for purchase?
A: Rusty Taco will be offering their mouth-watering fare at this year’s Greyfest. With locations in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, they will be sending their famous food-truck to the State Fair Grounds. With offerings like “achiote marinated shredded pork, topped with pineapple, onion and cilantro” and “chipotle black beans topped with pico de gallo, cotija cheese, cilantro and toasted pumpkin seeds” there is only one question: how do you say DELICIOUSLY AMAZING in greyhound?
Q: Can I purchase concessions with raffle tickets?
A: No. Concessions are being catered by an independent vendor. All concession purchases must be made directly with the food vendor via cash or credit card.
Q: Will you have Speed Alley again this year?
A: Yes! Speed Alley is a straight-line sprint "alley" between two lengths of fencing. This year we have a Radar speed-gun to capture the speed of each run and will provide awards to the fastest hounds.
Q: Where will Speed Alley be located?
A: Speed Alley will be set up outside the West side of the building. It will only be running during the scheduled time. (See schedule of events on the main Greyfest page.)
Q: How much does it cost for my hound to run Speed Alley?
A: Cost is $3 per hound per run, or $10 for a run plus a high-quality digital photo. The fastest 3 hounds will receive trophies!
Q: How can I register my dog(s) to run down Speed Alley?
A: It will be run on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested in letting your hound run down Speed Alley, please join the group that will be gathering near Speed Alley.
Q: Will someone be taking photos of my hound running down Speed Alley?
A: Yes! Kristy Bee Photography will be taking pictures of the hounds running in Speed Alley. For $10 your hound can run Speed Alley and you will receive a high-quality digital photo file. Pay for the photos before your hound runs and your photo will be emailed to you after Greyfest. 100% of the Speed Alley photo sale proceeds will benefit GPA MN.
Q: Is there a vet in the area that I can go to in case my dog gets hurt?
A: Directions to the nearest vet will be available at the event.
