The registration fee for the workshop is $40. If the class doesn't fill up (max 40 people) ahead of time, walk-ins will be welcome. But to assure a seat in this fun and popular workshop, preregistration is encouraged!
This lighthearted art workshop from 2pm-4:30pm on Saturday afternoon includes one pre-formed sculpture armature, and all supplies necessary to build your own "Cartuna" style personalized paper mache sculpture, with guidance and inspiration provided by Steve Wirtz. Additional "to-go" armatures will also be available for purchase at the workshop. Attendees take home the sculpture they make.
About the Artist:
Steve Wirtz is a full-time artist working primarily in the 3-D realm. His current materials of choice are wire and paper. Steve sells his art at festivals around the country, and is represented by a select number of fine galleries (listed on his website http://www.cartuna.net/ ). More samples of Steve's work are viewable on his Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/paper.mache.madness/ And you may visit him in our Vendor room on Friday and Saturday! Steve works out of his northern Michigan studio where he enjoys the outdoors very much.
Is it hard to do?
No. A pre-made wire armature (frame) is supplied, so the hard part is done for you. All that's left is just the fun!
How does it work?
You start with with a pre-made wire animal, some non-toxic paste, some shredded paper, and Steve Wirtz will guide you on how to flesh out and personalize your work of art. You can make it as silly or as meaningful as you like!
Can kids do it?
Yes. It is recommended for ages 8 and up.
Do I paint it?
Well, you can paint it after it's dry if you want, but some colored paper options will be provided for you to use as a final colored layer so you don't have to paint. You can also paste your own papers on it; perhaps pages from magazines and such.
